Interesting is always good. While it looks like my relationship with the startup with which I've been involved is going down in flames -- more personality conflict than money, although the latter as well -- I have learned some interesting things.

One of our areas had been more rural telcos going to VoIP and/or triple play. We had been providing professional services to a softswitch vendor, to get the customer networks solid before the VoIP gear went in. The typical end customer lacked clue and knew it, but the vendor didn't want to be involved in fixing a network that wasn't their responsibility.

I found it an interesting new point of view to look at a phone company with 648 lines, when my previous experience was more Verizon (actually predecessors). Another interesting one has a massive multistate optical transport, and a subsidiary that does fewer than 20,000 subscribers. Even in a big city, I found CLECs with desperate need for remote monitoring at colos.

Just stuff that I am working on or interested in. When I get time I hope to post information related to my current work with high performance e-mail systems at the $dayjob.
